Lonneke Engel

Lonneke Engel was born on 14th of June in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Her father, Rob Engel, an account manager, married her mother Ilona Emmers, a nurse originally from Kaatsheuvel, a village famous for a theme park: De Efteling. They started living together in Eindhoven, and welcomed their second daughter Marloes, 4 years later, on January 28th, 1985. Marloes is also a model.

Lonneke grew up in a suburb in Eindhoven named Tongelre. She went to elementary school at 't Karregat and she went to a Highschool named Lorentz Lyceum. She finished her VWO by herself through self study with a school named LOI.

Lonneke loved swimming, and by the time she was 11, already had 11 swimming diplomas. She thought she would go to competitive swimming, but there was something different in the cards for her.

In 1995, when she was 12 years old, Lonneke wanted to make some extra money, when a friend suggested: 'You should sign up with a modeling agency and see if you can get some modeling jobs' So she did, and her sister did as well. Her sister actually got the first job! Then, after Lonneke did some local modeling as a child model, a scout for Pauline's agency saw her pictures, and send them to Pauline herself. Pauline immediately asked Lonneke to come to Paris to meet her.
Pauline had so much trust in her, that she showed the pictures to famous Photographer Bruce Weber, who then booked her for her first international job for Abercrombie & Fitch without even seeing her first. It was her first time in an airplane going to another continent. The money she made she used to buy her first horse. Since then she worked multiple times with Bruce Weber (including one special spread in Italian Vogue in 1996, one that was dedicated to Lonneke)

In 1995 she walked her first show for Chanel. This was a famous show with all the supermodels. Lonneke walked hand in hand with Kate Moss, since she was still so young (13 years old). This was a very nice experience for her! After that, Lonneke did a campaign for Guess? With Ellen Von Unwerth, which was controversial. This 'Lolita' campaign got her instant recognition in the fashion world. Many more campaigns and photographers followed.

At 15 years old, Lonneke was introduced by Bruce Weber to Ralph Lauren. Since that time, Lonneke has teamed up with them both for numerous campaigns. Lonneke loves working with them, and she still works with them on a regular basis.

The past 10 years Lonneke has graced covers and done editorials for magazines like: French Vogue, Italian vogue, US Elle, !0 magazine, V magazine, Velvet, Muse Magazine, Italian Marie Claire, French Marie Claire.

Other photographers she has worked with are Regan Cameron, Mario testino, Mario Sorrenti, Craig mcDean, Herb Ritts, Inez & Vinoodh, Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, Terry Tsiolis, and many more.

When Lonneke was 16 years old, she was exclusively signed by Covergirl cosmetics to be their new face and spokesperson, together with Niki Taylor and Tyra Banks. Her contract was 3 years from 1998-2000. She really enjoyed the many commercials they filmed together, and the photoshoots they did together. After that Covergirl contract ended, she signed an exclusive contract with Ralph Lauren from 2000 to 2006. She was the face of perfumes like: RALPH, RALPH Cool, RALPH HOT, Glamorous, and did many different clothing line campaigns for him.
After this contract ended, Lonneke signed with IMG, which is her agency still, to be her representatives Worldwide. She let the fashion industry know she was back, by walking the catwalk one more time, during one season. In 2006/2007/2008 she was back with multiple campaigns, including Ralph Lauren (who booked her again after her contract expired) Bottega Veneta, Elie Tahari, Nicole Miller, and others.
